Episode 3 Cast Comments
After the post-recording of "MOBILE SUIT GUNDAM THE ORIGIN III: Dawn of Rebellion," we received some comments from all the cast members.

What did you think when you saw episode 2, "Artesia's Sorrow"?
I thought it was a very important episode that shows the transformation from Casval to Édouard, and then to Char Aznable. The last scene of his parting from Artesia also made an impression on me.
Tell us about your thoughts after you finished the post-recording of episode 3.
While episodes 1 and 2 were pretty easy, this one was relatively difficult. Despite a slight feeling of tension, I was still able to enjoy performing together with the new actors.
As the story continues, the time and situation change. Was there anything in your performance that you were particularly mindful of, or anything different from before?
The script was generally very well-written, so although it wasn't one of Char's lines, I performed with the feeling that "People should go with the flow."
Do you have a message for everyone awaiting the release of episode 3?
Thank you for your patience! This is the birth of Char Aznable. Look forward to it!

Tell us how you felt when you were offered this role.
It was an incredible honor to be playing the part of Garma, who made such a huge impression in the history of Gundam.
Tell us about your thoughts after you finished the post-recording.
I was really able to perform in an enjoyable and carefree way, and the time passed in the blink of an eye. I'd love to go back to that studio again. (laughs)
Was there anything in your performance that you were particularly mindful of?
The important thing was to perform so as to remain in the memories of the people who watched the story, and to entertain them.

As one of the performers, I'm also anticipating the release myself. All the actors and staff are delivering it to you with full confidence. Please look forward to it!

Tell us how you felt when you were offered this role.
I was really happy. At the same time, I felt some pressure, but I was eager to tackle it with all my ability!

It took a long time, but it felt like the blink of an eye. Being involved in a work that could be called the origin of Gundam, along with Kakihara who I've known since my teens, was a somewhat miraculous feeling. The recording was really fun.
Was there anything in your performance that you were particularly mindful of?
I stepped up to the mic with the desire to use all my previously developed abilities, and perform as many times as necessary until I could express it in a way that met everyone's expectations.
Do you have a message for everyone awaiting the release?
I think it's no exaggeration to say that you can't talk about Gundam if you haven't seen this work. I believe it's a story that will give you absolute satisfaction, and I hope you're looking forward to it.

What did you think when you saw episode 2, "Artesia's Sorrow"?
I did experience many sorrows. There were those of Artesia, as in the title, but I think it also applied to the feelings of other characters aside from her. Astraia thinking of her separation from her children and her late husband, Hamon's tears at the thought of Astraia, Ramba witnessing this, and then Casval shaking when he learns of his mother Astraia's death. These are sorrows that people feel when they think about someone.

I was nervous, more so than with episodes 1 and 2. That's probably because I was getting closer to the Sayla Mass that everybody knows. I ended up spending a lot of time in the studio until I could really talk like Sayla.
As the story continues, the time and situation change. Was there anything in your performance that you were particularly mindful of, or anything different from before?
At first, perhaps because I was too conscious of those changes, I heard from the director that I'd ended up overreaching, and that I should try to genuinely converse. He said I should try to enjoy the back-and-forth in the studio, unconsciously. The tension had really built up, and I'd gotten very tightly wound, so I had to take a deep breath before we started recording.

The story is heading towards the battlefield. War and conflict are constantly nearby, and the first shots will be fired in what you could call the opening round of the eventual One Year War. And this is also the moment in which the Red Comet is born... Be sure to get to the theater so that you can be a witness to this historic moment!

What did you think when you saw episode 2, "Artesia's Sorrow"?
It was heartbreaking to see the brother's isolation and anger, and the sister's endless sadness and despair, steadily increasing. On the other hand, the close combat scenes with the prototype mobile suit weapons felt so real it was uncanny.

At the start of the recording, I was able to ask General Director Yasuhiko for a talk. He said, "The drawings have been faithfully turned into a drama, so everyone, please perform freely as well." I think, ever since then, I've tried to consider the meaning of his words as I perform.
As the story continues, the time and situation change. Was there anything in your performance that you were particularly mindful of, or anything different from before?
As of episode 3, the situation is now careening towards war, but my feeling is that exposition and overly coloring book-style performances aren't necessary in order to faithfully depict the characters caught up in it.

The meeting of Char and the innocent Garma during their military academy days, and their gradually developing friendship, somehow lingers in the heart as a coming-of-age story that's both beautiful and sad.

What did you think when you saw episode 2, "Artesia's Sorrow"?
Wow, everyone's so young. No, they're growing up. Good! As for my part..... I don't like it.
Tell us about your thoughts after you finished the post-recording of episode 3.
I want to say that! But I can't. I want to say this! But I can't. If I say anything, it'll be a spoiler... If you get to the studio early, you get a bento box as a reward. The Kyoto-style grilled fish was really tasty.
As the story continues, the time and situation change. Was there anything in your performance that you were particularly mindful of, or anything different from before?
There were scenes that resembled the Gihren of later years, but he's still young, so I had to take that into account.

Please join me and my army.

What did you think when you saw episode 2, "Artesia's Sorrow"?
The sorrow of the abandoned Sayla, and the eyes of Édouard that burned with vengeance, definitely gave me a lump in my throat.

My feeling was less that I participated in a post-recording, and more that I was able to experience the awesomeness of Char Aznable before all the other fans. I was so focused on that, I forgot it was actually a job.
As the story continues, the time and situation change. Was there anything in your performance that you were particularly mindful of, or anything different from before?
Perhaps we're finally seeing Dozle's humanity, but it seems that he's a good person after all... (laughs) I've reconfirmed once again that, even if the time and situation change, at least Dozle never does.

This time, my grown-up kid brother Garma appears! He's a cute little guy, and I hope all the fans will enjoy meeting him. Sieg Zeon!

What did you think when you saw episode 2, "Artesia's Sorrow"?
This happened with episode 1 as well, but I was completely drawn in, and it was over in the blink of an eye. I was moved along with the movements of all the characters' hearts, and after I'd finished watching it, I could only say, "Whew!"
Tell us about your thoughts after you finished the post-recording of episode 3.
The intensity...! Amazing...! Just from looking at the script and the drawings, my heart was racing with excitement. It showed in my voice. I can't wait for it be finished! Ms. Kycilia is... scary. Very scary.
As the story continues, the time and situation change. Was there anything in your performance that you were particularly mindful of, or anything different from before?
Mistress Kycilia is getting steadily scarier. In the short time that's passed, I think her strength and intimidating nature have also increased. This time, that strength and intimidation are reflected in her thoughts toward Casval.

Once again, I'm sure everyone will be fully satisfied! If you're looking forward to it eagerly, I'm sure you will be!

What did you think when you saw episode 2, "Artesia's Sorrow"?
As a fan of First Gundam, I'm grateful to General Director Yasuhiko and everyone else for giving us such a fascinating depiction of Char's and Sayla's past selves!

Unfortunately, the real Char Aznable has disappeared by the time the title "Dawn of Rebellion" appears, and episode 3 excites us with the new approach of Édouard (Char) devoting himself to the Zeon forces.
As the story continues, the time and situation change. Was there anything in your performance that you were particularly mindful of, or anything different from before?
This time, the brown-eyed Char is so excited about his future prospects that it becomes comical. The sad ending that awaits him is the very essence of "GUNDAM THE ORIGIN" as a work, and I'd be happy if I can show the severe tension of reality through that contrast.
Do you have a message for everyone awaiting the release of episode 3?
You'll be overcome by the feeling that Gundam is a more wonderful work than you ever realized before. Personally, I've been enjoying it at top speed ever since episode 1. I think that, along with everyone's expectations, that enjoyment will accelerate even further. Let's enjoy it together!

Tell us how you felt when you were offered this role.
A lot of time passed between the audition and my performance, so I was looking forward to it for a long time. Including that, I was really happy to be chosen as the voice of Zenna Mia.
Tell us about your thoughts after you finished the post-recording.
The story of human life and death created a feeling of tension, and there was a peculiar mood. I'm grateful that the recording took place amid a good atmosphere.
Was there anything in your performance that you were particularly mindful of?
To me, war is a distant thing, but I think for her it's something very close at hand. I tried to be conscious that she was a strong woman while playing her.
Do you have a message for everyone awaiting the release of episode 3?
I'm happy that I was able to perform in "GUNDAM THE ORIGIN" this time. It's definitely a work that many people have been supporting for a long time, and so together with Zenna, I hope you'll continue to support it!

What did you think when you saw episode 2, "Artesia's Sorrow"?
I understood Char's boyhood experiences of being monitored by other people and having his life targeted, and the tragedy that later produced the cool-headed Char, but at the same time I was troubled. I was also surprised that Casval showed us a glimpse of Newtype ability even this early.

Amuro grows up from episode 2's age 8 to age 13, and he finally arrives at Side 7 with his engineer father. I was excited that Amuro Ray's fate is also going into motion at last.
As the story continues, the time and situation change. Was there anything in your performance that you were particularly mindful of, or anything different from before?
Given that Amuro is going to grow up even further from now on, based on his age, I paid particular attention to things like the tone of his voice, his innocence, and his feelings toward his father.
Do you have a message for everyone awaiting the release of episode 3?
I hope that you'll carefully observe how Édouard Mass and Casval Rem Deikun became Char Aznable, and the background behind Zeon's march toward a war of independence, and think about what happens to the hearts of righteous people.

Tell us how you felt when you were offered this role.
Gundam is so famous that there can't be anyone who hasn't heard of it. If you tried to imagine what such a person would be like... me?
Tell us about your thoughts after you finished the post-recording of episode 3.
I was grateful that I was able to adhere to my own "Minovsky image."
Was there anything in your performance that you were particularly mindful of?
"The pride of a genius" and "bargaining to continue the project"... It was a balancing point between those two contrary attitudes.
Do you have a message for everyone awaiting the release of episode 3?
It's literally the "origin of origins." If you considers yourself a Gundam fan, you absolutely have to see it!
